Dr. Johnson was born and raised in rural northeast Oklahoma and is the first in her family to get her bachelor’s degree. She is a Cherokee Nation citizen and is happy to be training and teaching at the first tribally affiliated medical school in the United States. Dr. Johnson is dedicated to giving back to her community and tribe through community-based medicine. She hopes to pass on her expertise and enthusiasm to medical students throughout their education. Dr. Johnson attended OSU-COM for her DO degree and finished her family practice residency at NHS-Tahlequah in 2017. She received her master’s in public health from Emory Rollins School of Public Health in 2018, graduating in the national honors society, Phi Delta Omega. She completed her practicum at the CDC in Atlanta researching American Indian/Alaska Native Maternal and Child Health Epidemiology. She practiced for two years at Wilma P. Mankiller Health Center in Stilwell, OK as a primary care provider and was also the HPV Vaccination physician champion. Dr. Johnson enjoys time with her friends, family, and two dogs, Rebel and Mack and her kitten, Rumchata. She loves kayaking, hiking, and live music (when not in a pandemic) as well as trivia night and Marvel movie marathons.
