Michelle Lopez is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Section of Hospital Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) / Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH). Michelle completed her MPH at UTHealth School of Public Health in Community Health with a concentration in Health Disparities. Michelle is faculty at the Center for Child Health Policy and Advocacy at TCH, a Health Policy Scholar in the Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy at BCM, and an Inclusion and Equity Ambassador for the Department of Pediatrics at BCM. Michelle is passionate about the potential to conduct screening and interventions for social determinants of health (SDoH) in hospitalized pediatric patients. Previous research studies that Michelle has led or mentored include a comprehensive SDoH screening and intervention study in pediatric hospital medicine patients, an examination of inpatient food insecurity in the caregivers of hospitalized patients, a description of immigrant health needs and resource utilization, and an intervention for postpartum depression in the mothers of hospitalized infants. Michelle also facilitates a provider course at TCH to improve patient communication and is passionate about the importance of effective patient communication in reducing disparities.
